about

In April 2016, after a 27 year fight, the families of the 96 people killed at hillsborough ,where people simply went to watch a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forrest, finally could find some sort of peace when they heard that it was unlawful death rather than accidental.

There were untold crimes of police and government cover ups that went on over this period which initially tried to blame the fans. One hideous English tabloid newspaper even ran a FALSE story about liverpool fans stealing from the dead.

Although there were many incredible mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives etc who continued the fight against all the odds, one woman who lost her 15 year old boy in the disaster, was unwavering in her demonstrations against this massive injustice.
In the end it probable cost Anne Williams her life, and unfortunately she wasn't alive to see this monumentous occasion of justice being finally served (although prosecitions are still to come) .

Her one comment "you'll not wear me down" epitomises the hold battle.
I actually wrote this the day after the court's verdict was given but haven't had a chance to release it since travelling.

As much as certain people may despise football, after all these years I still say where else can you go where 40,000 people are singing the same song together with heart and soul at the top of their voices with no band, no instruments, just pure soul. Like everything so long as you don't let it dominate your life, and crave the good times constantly, it is an amazing force for togetherness in our somewhat fractured society.

This is a tribute to all the families of hillsborough, and as a Liverpool fan myself it is very close to my heart x

lyrics

when the sun goes down
and the liver birds weep at their peak
all the deafening cries
will they go to sleep?

When the grass was green
and the sky was blue
could we work out
why blackness comes and succeeds

A city cries do they hear
the country might shed a tear
hearing all others fears
suffer inside so nothing hear is real
reach out and touch it can't you feel
we need to heal

Authorities frown
we're against the crown
one woman spoke out
"you'll not wear me down"

A city cries out they hear
the realisation's clear
spreading unwanted fear
breaking through the boundaries truth is here
a battle 27 years
its here.........
walk on with me
walk on with me
